In the spring of 2018, the Grand Palais presented a major retrospective dedicated to František Kupka, one of the pioneers of European abstraction. The exhibition offered visitors an opportunity to rediscover the work of a visionary artist who played a significant role in transforming the language of painting during the early twentieth century.
Through an outstanding selection of paintings, preparatory studies, and archival documents, visitors were able to follow the evolution of his artistic journey, from Symbolist influences to the abstract compositions that helped shape modern art. Particular attention was given to his exploration of movement, color, and visual rhythm.
By providing a comprehensive view of his work, the exhibition highlighted Kupka’s importance in the development of abstraction and allowed audiences to gain a deeper understanding of the origins of contemporary non-figurative art.
